Important Things to Think About Before Your Painter Arrives.
- Planning. A few things to do to plan for painting day. Depending on the size of the job, you will need to be away from the house so the paint can dry. This will allow the paint fumes to dry and clear out any odors that can be disruptive.
- Furniture placement. Where will you put your furniture? You will have to move the furniture away from the walls. Draping the furniture with drop cloths is advisable.
- Photograph your room. You will be impressed by the difference between the original photo and the finished product.
- Stash the decorations. Small items can get broken or get in the way. Get a box and box up any small items.
- Wall hangings and window treatments. Wall hangings should be off the walls. You can put them up on the furniture. This is a great time to take down the window treatments and have them dry-cleaned or laundered.
- Make Repairs. Patch up any holes in the walls. With a little spackle, you can easily fix nail holes, drywall damage, or cracks. With a little bit of effort, your final job will look pristine.
- Wash the walls. A good washing will help the paint adhere to the walls. A simple solution of warm water and a little dish detergent will clean anything off the walls that will prevent the paint from adhering with a smooth finish.
Special note- If you are having the inside of the cabinets painted, be sure to remove everything from the inside. You can store these items in a bin. Once the cabinets have fully cured (approximately 21-30 days), you may put all your items back. Waiting will ensure that the paint will not chip.
